Robert J. Soper: Early Legal Experience

Robert J. Soper is a proven leader in gaming resort operations, management and development.

A longtime executive with the Mohegan Sun and its parent company, Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (MTGA), Soper now provides expert guidance and advisement services on gaming resort development and operations as President & CEO of Sun Gaming & Hospitality (SG&H).

Early Legal Experience

Robert J. Soper’s first real experience in gaming came shortly after graduating law school (1997), when he accepted the position of legal counsel with the Mohegan Indian Tribe and the MTGA.

During his nearly four-year tenure as counsel—a role that would later grow into senior counsel—Soper was charged with managing various commercial transactions and legal issues, overseeing the in-house legal team in regards to the $1 billion Mohegan Sun expansion project (Project Sunburst), and leading the effort to raise project funds on Wall Street.

Soper’s tenure as senior counsel for the Tribe ended in 2001, when he accepted the role of Senior Vice President at Mohegan Sun.
